In Lovelock Ones: Native One, teens, Jema and Troy, are sent to a cave community to escape a flu outbreak. In my search for a cavern which could serve as quarters for a group of people, Lovelock Cave rose to the top of my list. It is located just twenty miles south of modern day, Lovelock, which sits in the mid-western desert region of Nevada.
Lovelock Cave is thought to be one of the most important archeological sites in North America. Its history of human occupation spans 3500 years, dating to 1500 BC. Over ten thousand archeological specimens including tools, bones, baskets, mummies, fifteen inch sandals, and the oldest feathered duck decoys exist from the site.
The first people in Lovelock Cave are known as the Lovelock Culture. The Northern Paiutes are believed to have replaced the Lovelock Culture. According to Paiute legend, a group of red-headed giants terrorized the local tribes. These large people are known as the Saiduka (Si-Te-Cah). The tribes are said to have banded together, drove the giants into Lovelock Cave, and exterminated them by fire. Some archeological evidence for a group of tall red-headed people exists from digs in the early 1900s.
It is Sarah Winnemucca Hopkins, a Paiute writer and lecturer, pictured above with her father (a Paiute chief), who wrote down the legends in 1882 in a book titled Life Among the Paiutes: Their Wrongs and Claims.
An early idea for the title of Lovelock Ones was The New Paiute. As the cave became more important to Jema and Troy, I decided to adopt it as the title. You may have noted the emblem (below) I had designed to represent this book series. It includes Jema’s icon, arrows, Troy’s icon, jack rabbits, and the outline of Lovelock Cave’s entrance in the center.
If you haven’t read Lovelock Ones: Native One you can find it in The Butterfly Box, an anthology of eight healing themed novellas. Native One is a novella centered around Jema, who decides she must find a cure for her sister. It will be followed by Bred One in Jan. 2018, which tells Troy’s challenges in the cave community.

All the best,
Happy New Year! I was so excited to find this planner with birds to organize my year. Thinking about 2017, I looked back at my goals for 2016. I have to say, I feel good about the year. I finished the Being Me series and added two novellas to my collection. If you remember my chalkboard list from January 2016, I’d listed finishing the series, attending two conferences, and trying something new. I had a blast at Utopia Con and Penned Con and met so many new people, they were both great experiences! The something new ended up being my first paranormal read, Drops of Sunshine, and most recently my first dystopian story Lovelock Ones: Native One. These challenged me to write in two new genres, in a different age group, and from a male character’s perspective.
In 2015 when I decided to publish my first book, Is This Me?, I knew I wanted it to tell a story of a girl who thinks she’s figured it all out but experiences challenges that leave her questioning her path. It was a hard series to write because I wanted it to be authentic. I needed for Amanda to face situations that pushed her to the limits and for her to find a way to meet her trials head on. I loved the characters in this series and am sad to be putting many of them on hold for now. Zack’s story is one that I aim to get to you in 2017! If you haven’t been introduced to Amanda, Doug, Zack, Lila, Mark, and the rest of the crew read Is This Me? FREE http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YIABVKG and you can pick up books 2-4 in this great bundle and save!
the Being Me Series books 2-4
My first YA and paranormal story, Drops of Sunshine, first published in Spellbound, a summer themed anthology with four other YA paranormal novellas! It has gotten wonderful reviews and I love Nina’s character. She retreats to a camp for the blind for the summer only to find out some kids can read her thoughts. Just when she wanted to hide the most, she is forced to share her pain. You can get Spellbound for FREE here!

My most recent publication, Lovelock Ones: Native One is the first novella in Lovelock Ones, a Lovelock Chronicles novel. I already have the second novella, Lovelock Ones: Bred One, featuring Troy, written. Lovelock Ones will publish in January of 2018! If you’d like to read the first installment and meet Jema and Troy, it is the first novella in The Butterfly Box, available for $0.99 on Amazon in the US: http://a.co/bm5ExQN and UK: http://amzn.eu/bl6xlyR. This anthology, of eight healing themed stories, benefits Doctors Without Borders.
I’m very excited about my new paranormal series, The Kingdom Series Journals! The first, Kingdom of Embers, Kingdom Series Journal 1 – Alena’s Story, will be out February 7! In Kingdom of Embers, Alena finds herself frustrated and confused by her Vampire Council Chancellor mother’s search for an unknown entity. When Alena meets Hunter, she thinks he might be the answer. A second suitor’s appearance complicates matters. You’ll see whether she can figure out who to trust in time to save her mother’s kingdom from being reduced to embers.
So, I am pretty pumped for 2017 and hope you are too! If you want to get all my latest news subscribe to my email newsletter here:
I’ll be looking for advance copy readers soon, so don’t miss out!
As always, wishing you the best in the new year!
