The 90s: The decade of AOL, Grunge music, the Gulf War, OJ Simpson trial, Friends, Seinfeld, Britney and Christina, tattoos and belly button piercings, Monica Lewinsky, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Tarantino movies. It was a decade of polarities and hilarity.
Those who reached adulthood in the Nineties were branded Generation X, and were labeled apathetic slackers and cynics. But, ultimately, this generation was called on to bridge the gap between old ideals and new technologies and ways of living.
These new adults had to find jobs, find themselves, and find love amidst rapidly changing landscapes online and off.
TEN THINGS I LOVE ABOUT YOU is a collection of ten contemporary romance, new adult, stand-alone stories set in the 1990s.
The title of each love story will be a hit song from the year that the novella represents, and are written, respectively, by award-winning and bestselling authors.

But when the town’s sexy mechanic comes riding to her rescue, maybe her fairy godmother is onto something.
1994: “The Sign” -- Carey Heywood Author
Are personalized mix tapes, Ferris Wheel rides, and ice cream-flavored kisses signs that I'm falling in love with my best friend?

So he prepares Auren for the possibility that she may have to leave the Dark Isle without him and face her destiny alone, but can she leave him and do what must be done?
Praise for Renee's Shadow Stalker series...
"This is the first time I’ve read a serial and I didn’t know what to expect. I was pulled into the story right away. The pacing was cleverly crafted so that while the action had the pages turning, there was enough back story to keep you rooted in the plot."
~ Melissa Barker-Simpson, Author of the Morgan and Fairchild Series
"Scattergood's writing style is simple and straightforward and her characters very believable."
~ Grant Leishman, Author of Tortured Minds
"One of the best things about the series are the characters, who are human and sympathetic. The heroine is both a tough, capable young woman, and a naive and self-centered teenager; the tension between the two sides of her personality as she is suddenly forced to leave childhood behind and enter into adulthood is often well-captured, as is her ambivalent relationship with her foster father."
~ E.P. Clark, Author of The Zemnian Trilogy

Today I'm highlighting A Spirit's Last Gift by Kathy-Lynn Cross. I read a version of this story in an anthology, Echoes of Winter, last year! I'm exciting to see where Kathy has taken this expanded story!
About the book: Juslynn’s one wish is for Carter to notice her, not as his best friend but something more. Carter and Juslynn are attending the Snow Flurry dance together, but she catches him kissing her rival. Overcome with emotions, her reaction to flee in four-inch heels causes a fatal accident. Now caught between life and death she must figure out how to move on with the help from a demon.
About Kathy-Lynn Cross: Born in Pomona, California, Kathy-Lynn Cross lived there for twelve years until her family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. Kathy-Lynn wasn’t always a writer. In 2008, when her niece was hospitalized, Kathy-Lynn decided to do something special for her, so she wrote a short tale for her to read. After devouring it in a single day, her niece and the nurses in the pediatrics wing quickly asked her, “What’s next?” That was when a new chapter in her life opened up, and Kathy-Lynn realized that she wanted to become a story weaver.
Kathy-Lynn loves the color red and uses it obsessively in everything, including her bottle-blonde hair accented with red highlights. She has a knack for baking and cake decorating—that is when her fingers are not busy writing mayhem. When recharging, she can be found curled up with a cup of coffee and a good book or spending time with her hubby of twenty-two years, two kids, three cats, two silver dollar fish, and the family dog.
Tis the season for gratitude! As Thanksgiving draws near, focus shifts to what we are thankful for. For me the list is long, with family, friends, our book community, and knock on wood, no broken bones this year, making my top five!
A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of meeting an amazing woman who fully embraces the power of gratitude. Our first coffee could easily have turned into a three hour pow wow, that is how wonderful our engaging hour was. Amy Collette introduced me to her book, The Gratitude Connection, that teaches how gratitude, practiced 365 days a year, can transform our lives.
I went home and read the book cover to cover, and loved her message so much I wanted to share it with you. Amy Collette’s mission is to help raise the positive vibration of the planet! She is a book coach, best-selling author, and award-winning speaker. Her upbeat book, The Gratitude Connection, features inspirational stories and practical exercises to retrain your brain for happiness and success.
Always a spiritual seeker and self-help junkie, she finally settled on gratitude as her spiritual practice of choice. When she’s not writing, Amy speaks to groups, teaches writing courses, coaches authors, and enjoys life in Colorado with her husband, Tom. She loves to work with people who are making a positive impact on the world. Favorite clients include socially conscious entrepreneurs, thought leaders and speakers. Publishing their stories helps raise the vibration of the planet, one reader at a time.
Gratitude is a powerful catalyst for happiness. It’s the spark that lights a fire of joy in your soul.
~ Amy Collette
Excerpt from the book:
LIVING THE GRATEFUL LIFE
Your gratitude practice is just that: a practice, a habit. It’s not
something you have to sit down and do for 20 minutes a day, it
is an easy practice that sneaks into all the nooks and crannies
of your life. I didn’t know this when I started, but practicing
gratitude makes you happy. Gratitude is a high-energy emotion,
and once you start feeling it, it seeps into everything, like air.
Pretty soon, it becomes a lifestyle and changes you in subtle
ways. Like you’ll smile at someone you think is judgmental.
You might wake up in a good mood instead of dreading the
morning. You might shake off the anger about your commute
and look forward to your evening with the family.
Wishing you a happy Thanksgiving and gratitude filled holiday season!
For you guys that follow my blog you know I'm all about wellness and well being. I hate being stressed. But what is stress really? It's a physiological reaction to an event. When we experience a stressful situation our fight or flight response is triggered. Political propaganda would have us believe vampires are our friends. Fanged teddy bears misunderstood thanks to archaic lore. Activists picket for them to be welcomed into our society.
They claim vamps don't kill.
They preach we are safe.
They ... are dead wrong.
One year ago a hive slaughtered my family and left me for dead. Found by a team of scientists with their own agenda, I was forged into an unstoppable weapon.
I possess their strength, with none of their weaknesses.
I can move among them free from their crippling hunger.
I am their greatest threat.
Armed with this arsenal, vengeance will feed my desire to penetrate the seedy underbelly of their fetishized lifestyle and expose them for the monsters they truly are.

Most girls dream of being princesses, but one princess just wants to be a normal girl.
Ella Carina, crown princess of Aelawyn, knows brutality and lies—she’s seen the way her father rules. Princess. Possession. To her father, the words had the same meaning. She was only as valuable as the alliance formed with her betrothal. Her freedom comes from an unlikely place: an attack on the castle.
When the conquering King offers to protect her from the betrothal her father arranged for political gain, she consents. Hiding her within a peasant family is the only way to keep her and her secret safe.
In this simpler life, Ella flourishes and catches the eye of the local Blacksmith’s son. For once, she can be herself and make her own choices, but the life of a princess—even one kept secret—was never meant to be easy.
Trevor, crown prince of Galder has been searching for Ella, but not because of their betrothal. She is in grave danger from the very people who hid her away. His plan is to show her the truth and help her to safety.
Nothing goes as planned. When Trevor finds her, it’s to discover she’s fallen in love with a peasant. Now he has two goals: help her regain her throne… and show her that she belongs with him.

I was in my room, lost in my own worries, when the world as I knew it was torn to shreds.
My room was large, and with only a bed and wardrobe inside, it was far too spacious than anything I needed. But it was also my sanctuary. It had to be. Father didn’t allow me to leave the space without an escort, and only then when he gave me permission, which wasn’t often. I considered myself lucky to have a window until that day.
The horrors I saw from that window would stay with me forever.
Sitting quietly in the alcove, watching the comings and goings of the villagers, was how I learned the ever-changing styles in fashion and beauty, how gentlemen and ladies were to properly act, and how some acted very improperly when they thought no one was watching.
The day the Kingdom of Aelawyn fell, I was watching and envying the lives of her people.
Nothing seemed amiss as three large, covered wagons approached the front gate. The man driving the horses that pulled the lead wagon shouted to the guard atop the gate, announcing that they carried supplies, taken from another forest raid. They were granted immediate entry, Father’s guard raising the portcullis for them.
One by one, the wagons crept into the yard. As soon as the gate slammed back to the ground behind the third wagon, a loud whoop sounded. The guards were stunned, so much so that it took far too long for them to spring into action and defend the castle. The wagon canvases were torn to shreds as a small army, clad in armor and donning swords, shields, and all manner of weaponry, unfolded from the wagons and began to slash their way across the yard.
They did not take time to discern villager from soldier, male from female, innocent from guilty.
A river of blood flowed in their wake, draining between the cobblestones. They were so skilled and efficient in battle that they entered the castle before any alarm could be raised to stop them. In no time, they’d taken the castle itself.

Overcoming those mid-project/mid-semester blues can be tough...The beginning of the term or a new endeavor is exciting! At the start, I have all my goals laid out and am ready to tackle them. As time goes on though, maybe there are setbacks, or maybe I’ve got the big things checked off the list and there are the small mundane details to finish up, and I begin to feel less motivated. Sometimes I’m tired, or burned out, over-stressed with other commitments, and become overwhelmed or unmotivated.
This fall, I noticed my zeal for a new project waning. I had a major disappointment with another undertaking, and although I only had like 20% to finish, I began to slack off. But I’m not one to quit things, so I kept muddling through. It wasn’t until I got some time away, that I realized my sadness over the other setback was affecting me more than I thought.
I started searching for how to get over that mid-way slump. First, I owned being bummed over my setback, then I took to heart a comment a friend made. “That was one thing,” she said. “It doesn’t mean the next one will be the same.” AKA, I took stock, and got some inspiration.

Being a victim of bullying is never fun. Whether it’s the kid on the playground who makes fun of you every day, or more extreme cases of cyber bullying, threats, intimidation, in a social circle, or in the work place, being bullied is hard to deal with. I was that kid on the playground, the little kid that the big kid always picked on. That same big kid followed me to high school and never stopped. As I grew older, I learned to wear a thick skin. But, I still felt sad and embarrassed.
In several my books, I’ve weaved in a character who is a bully and harms one of my heroines. I tired to show good ways of dealing with bullies. Aleena in Kingdom of Embers is the target of some bullying cheer friends as well as the school bully. Think You Know Me is about a college co-ed who is assaulted by a violent bully. Knowing what to do when you or someone you love is hard, so I’ve done some research and have some tips for you!
