My most recent read, a short story collection, Hostile Take Over, is a wonderful literary experience. Experience may sound odd for a book but I don’t know how else to describe it. I expected each story to be dystopian in nature even though the back cover says plainly “stories of various genres”. I am impressed with the latitude of settings, point of view, plots, and characters in this collection. I think it is wonderfully creative and fun to read each author’s take on the theme of revolution, uprising, and overcoming oppression.
I am impressed with how the authors were able to set a tone, introduce characters, and tell a story that grabs you within five thousand words. From BJ Sheldon’s futuristic story of heroism, to Colleen Nye’s paranormal romance, Kelly Risser’s living dead characters, to Tia Bach’s alien invasion, the stories are entirely entertaining.
Hostile Take Over is Book 3 of The Debut Collective, a series of books, written and published by indie authors, indie editors, and an indie press. Each of the stories is a maximum of five thousand words, so can be read within fifteen to thirty minutes. This book has stories by Alex Lamar, Alexandra Weis, Ashley Bodette, Avyn Lee, BJ Sheldon, Colleen Nye, Jessica Dorn, Kelly A. Risser, Natasha Hanova, Patti Larsen, S.E. Summa, Susan Burdorf, and Tia Silverthorne Bach. Some of the authors like Nye, Risser, and Bach, I have read works from before but the rest are new to me. I am looking forward to reading more of their work.
You can find this and the other Debut Collective books, Acts of Bravery, The Under Dogs, Secret Identity, and Against All Odds on Amazon from The Debut Collective social media page, https://www.facebook.com/DebutCollective/ or the main website, https://thedebutcollective.wordpress.com/.
