Earth Month Dystopian Thriller A Quirk of Destiny Spotlight
For April and Earth Month I wanted to spotlight books with conservation and environmental themes and the dystopian thriller genre came to mind. Catherine Greenall’s book, A Quirk of Destiny, is a perfect pairing for Earth Month. I met Catharine in an author group in 2020 and it’s been a pleasure getting to know about her, her passions, and publications. Like me, her background is in science. She has a passion for being health, eating healthy, and being good to our planet.

More about A Quirk of Destiny
A Quirk of Destiny is a chilling look at a world where science is used against rather than for the good of mankind. Calum O’Connell is a scientist at the Department for Food and Environment assessing the safety of new food technologies. Puzzled by a number of incidents involving fellow scientists he soon finds himself caught up in a deadly worldwide epidemic. Calum suspects genetically-modified food is the cause of the epidemic and sets out in search of the truth. A natural leader, he gathers around him an ever-growing band of people unaffected by the illness in his quest to find answers and refuge from the authorities who seek to silence him. A Quirk of Destiny is a fast-moving story about what happens when too much power is held by too few people.
My review of A Quirk of Destiny
Zombie apocalypse meets dystopian conspiracies… the GM modified crops start making people sick, and not just ill sick, but aggressive, riotous, and dangerous. The few people who’ve not consumed the GM crops or animals that fed on them, must figure out how to survive. One group, a group of scientist who may realize the truth, band together. But they’re hunted by the companies producing the GM modified crops. And then they learn the whole truth. No spoilers here. If you love a good action survival book, this is for you!
