Your first look at the Illustrated YA novel, Azreya, Aztec Priestess
I am so excited to share this first look at my upcoming release, an Aztec mythology legend, Azreya, Aztec Priestess. Although officially a young adult novel, appropriate for ages 12+, I think this book especially will appeal to readers of any age. A mixture of fantasy, paranormal, historical fiction, mythology, and legend, Azreya has much to offer a wide variety of readers.
I teamed up with a local artist, Matt Maes, to bring you a 248 page, full-color illustrated novel. It contains 10 full-page color illustrations plus a map and images of the hand-drawn sketches used to create the illustrations. Art lovers and budding artists rejoice.
In addition it contains a glossary of Aztec terms I used in the book. We did extensive research to bring you a real Aztec experience with Azreya, Aztec Priestess. I only deviated on one point, books. The Aztec had no written language, only a spoken language, the Nahuatl language. But I’m geeking out. On to the good stuff. Here’s more about Azreya, Aztec Priestess, An Illustrated Mythology Legend.
From the Back Cover of Azreya, Aztec Priestess
For years, Azreya accepts her place as one cursed by the gods, but with foresight of an impending slaughter, she dares to attempt to reverse the Aztec people’s fate.
At the age of three, Azreya is placed in the care of a shaman, Nukpana, who promises to protect her. Servitude to the man who vowed to keep her dark side from emerging seemed a small price to pay until a special client visits. Azreya’s inner compass clashes with Nukpana’s wishes and her rage boils over.
With the demon just under the surface, she has no choice but to flee, only to find her own family refuses to take her in. Still unable to stand by and witness her people’s demise, Azreya pursues a quest to enlighten them. She faces many challenges—not the least of which is the monster hiding under her own skin.
Can Azreya control her inner beast and convince her people to break from age-old patterns, or will the Aztecs be vanquished by the enemy?
Journey back in time to unlock the secrets of the Aztec.
