Each book or journal is told through the voice of a different character and Kingdom of Embers is Alena’s story. Alena (Uh-lee-nuh) is a vampire-witch hybrid whose mother has her mainstream into normal human society including attending high school. To add to her challenges, they move every two years so it is almost impossible for Alena to feel like she fits in.

Which leads to the question, who is her father and why is her mother keeping his identity a secret?
