New Adult Urban Fantasy Release

Today I’m sharing a new adult urban fantasy release, Basically Vampires, by Harper A. Brooks. I had the privilege of reading an advance copy of the book and I’ve included my review below too! This new urban fantasy release caught my eye for several reasons. First, it’s urban fantasy, second, it’s about vampires, and third, hello, vampires! 😉 Here are all the details about this new adult urban fantasy release from Harper A. Brooks.

We would always joke about our friendship lasting forever. Now, it’s not so funny.

Colt Enigati and I used to be best friends. Now we’re at each other’s throats. When he left town, I thought I’d never see him again. And when I finally do? I wish he’d stayed away.

Colt is a dhampir, and despite his human father’s hopes that he would miss out on his royal blood, his mother’s genetics are starting to show up. He says he’s a danger to everyone around him.

Especially me.

But when I find him near death and in pain from the transformation overtaking his body, I risk it all to help him fight through the pain. For my troubles, I get a slight graze of his fangs before he can stop himself.

Now, we’re both basically vampires. Maybe that’s not such a bad thing, considering the royal vampire family is coming into town to fight off a moon-mad werewolf and start a supernatural war.

Being together again is stirring up old feelings and complicating our already toxic relationship. But we don’t have time for that kind of stuff. We need to learn to control our newfound powers and find a way to stop the war before it ends up destroying everything we’ve ever cared about.

Including… each other.

4/5*

Lacey and Colt were best friends since childhood but he disappeared ten years ago. Upon return, Colt accidentally bites Lacey making her a dhampir, an almost vampire, like him. The only problem is he’s a “blood” dhampir, and she’s merely a turned dhampir. Fast forward a year and Lacey’s adjusting to her half-human, half-vampire state working in a club with her now best friend again, Colt, and life is mostly good, that is until, his royal mother finds Colt and tries to force him into vampire royalty.

Colt shuts Lacey out and she’s forced to figure out how to survive on her own when a rampant epidemic starts infecting the wolves. She’s got a few friends from the first book of this series, Practically Witches, and a few almost werewolf friends as well, but she’s crushed that Colt has turned his back on her.

Can she save herself and Colt from his mother’s snare? Will they find a way to stop the infection among the wolves before it spreads to all supernaturals? Find out in Basically Vampires.

I enjoyed this new adult urban fantasy. It included some new vampire lore that I found thoughtful and likeable. The author did a good job at building suspense and left you wondering how the story would resolve. It definitely had a plot twist at the end that I did not expect.

Although in the new adult genre, this book wasn’t heavy on romance and didn’t include any graphical romance scenes. There are appropriate romance encounters that are described but not explicitly detailed. But for all you, like me, who love a good romance plot included in every book, there’s a bit of a romance will they, won’t they end up together in there. No spoilers as to whether that happens though.

Happy reading,
