Fantasy Author Caitlin Denman
Fantasy author Caitlin Denman is a new author to me and I can’t wait to dive into her fantasy books! She had me with the cover! Oh, wait they’re about fae, I’m even more hooked! Fantasy books are my favorite genre and I can’t wait to dive into her young adult fantasy books. The dagger image reminds me of the curse on the witch lines in my Kingdom Journals series that is bound by the legendary Lance of Longinus.

- Why do you write?
- I love it. Writing is almost a form of therapy for me.
- Why do you write in your specific genre?
- It’s my favorite genre. I love how you can create all these crazy off the wall worlds with crazy creatures and fantastical characters.
- Why did you start writing? Was there a specific experience that spurred you to write?
- So, I used to read TONS of books (not so much now that I write them) and I was thinking how fun it would be to write my own book. Then one night I had a dream about the story in my book. I had this same dream a few days in a row. One night I had the first part of the story, the next it would pick up right where the dream left off the night before and so on. I’d never had a dream continue for nights on end so I figured that was a sign that I should write the story.

- What do you love most about writing and being an author?
- What I love most about writing is how I can escape from things and how I feel after I write. Like I previously mentioned, writing is like therapy for me. I help my characters deal with a situations (sort of) like my own and helping them take it on, helps me conquer my own demons. What I love most about being an author is my fans. I’m sure everyone says this but I have the most wonderful and supportive fans. I even have a couple fans that when I’m have a day where imposter syndrome is hitting hard they help pull me out of my funk.

- Tell me about your books and series.
Fae rule the world.
Humans are in hiding.
In this Young Adult page turner, Attina finds herself in an unlikely predicament when it’s uncovered the normal, human existence she thought she lived is turned upside down. Finding out she’s half Fae not only confounds her, but in a time where the brutal Fae run the world she is suddenly tasked with bringing the Fae and humans together.
With the help of her trusty, and somewhat snarky steed Raven, Attina sets out on a mission to save the human race from extinction. As she continues on her mission, she discovers powers beyond her wildest dreams.
In a world where it’s tricky to discern who’s good and where the evil really lies, Attina finds herself in one predicament after another, not knowing who to trust except for Raven. As her journey unfolds, her strength and will are tested. Will she ever be strong enough to bridge the gap between these two worlds?

- Who is your favorite character in one of your books?
- There’s no way I could pick one favorite character. My main FMC is named Attina. She has many similar characteristics to me so I know she should be my favorite character but honestly my main male character and Attina’s horse Raven are my favorite characters. Allister I based off of my boyfriend. Allister always makes me laugh and somehow always surprises me with his caring, funny, and protective personality. Raven is a talking Fae horse I based off of the first horse I ever owned. Raven’s snarky personality always makes me chuckle and brings back happy memories for me.
- What inspired you to write?
- My niece. I wanted her to grow up and read a story of a girl going through hard times but persevering and thriving.
- How do you write? Plot out or wing it?
- I write in kind of a mixture. I sit down and plot out major points I want to hit throughout the story but other than that I wing it.
- Who are your favorite authors? What genres do you read?
- I really read a TON of different genres. It just depends on my mood. I read 3 books at a time but no matter my mood, I always have one or two YA/NA fantasy books I’m currently reading. I love Emma Hamm, Elise Kova, Sarah J Maas, Robert B Parker, and my friends Belle Manuel and Kayla Maya.

- What do you want readers to experience or take away from your books?
- I want them to see how you can go through trauma and hardships but if you keep pushing forward things will get better. Also, I was in karate for 12 years as a kid and I wrote in some self defense moves into my stories. If one kid reads my stories and remember those self defense moves, it will all be worth it.

- Do you have/make writing goals.
- I make daily writing goals. I try to write 14,000 words a week so I can either write 2000 for 7 days or 3000 for 5. Just depends on my schedule that week and what I’m capable of writing. Writer’s block is a killer, lol.

- What else do you want readers to know about you? What questions do you want me to ask?
- Readers usually like to hear about the horses I own and what I compete with them in. I really don’t have anything super special about me besides my books and horses.

Caitlin lives and grew up in Southern California with her family and her three horses, three dogs, and a cat. She graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a bachelor’s in agribusiness.
Besides writing, she loves training and competing on horses. She has competed in barrel racing, breakaway roping, team roping, and mounted shooting. She has owned and ridden horses since she was twelve-years-old.
