Fractured Glass Young Adult Fantasy

Fractured Glass Young Adult Fantasy

Since I had to reboot my blog, I thought I’d revisit some of my favorite books. I read Fractured Glass young adult fantasy in 2014 just after it published. This was the first work by Federation of the Ferocious Five including Tia Silverthorne Bach, Jo Michaels, Casey L. Bond, Kelly Risser, and N. L. Greene. These five authors came together to produce a book like no other. It is written as any other book would be, from beginning to end, but each writer authors a section of the tale.

I loved that you get to hear the different voices and experience the different styles of each author. The premise of the book was unique, world building imaginative, and story line exciting. All in all I gave this book a well-earned 4.5*.

From the back cover of Fractured Glass

What if other worlds existed alongside your own? What if you could travel through them and truly escape reality?

Sloan and Harley Glass were born moments apart; but, despite their differences, the sixteen-year-old twins couldn’t be closer. They’ve held their tongues each and every time their mother has uprooted them—often moving across the country with little notice. They’ve learned to accept change. But what is Mom running from?

They discover they’re travelers—half-descendants of those who can traverse an entire universe of parallel worlds known as fractals. When the past catches up, Harley is kidnapped and taken to one of those distant worlds. Now, Sloan must garner her courage and find a way to rescue her sister. Traversing the worlds isn’t the hard part; it’s surviving the elements and the creatures lying in wait to destroy everything in their path.

Will the Glass sisters be able to save the fractal worlds from the kidnapper, or will everything fracture and crumble around them?

My official review of this imaginative young adult fantasy

Fractured Glass is a wonderfully fun tale about adventure, bravery, friendship, and family. The characters, worlds, and story line created for this book are completely original and very creative. I liked hearing the story through the different voices of the authors and loved the exposure to each author’s style.

More insight… Sloan and Harley are polar opposites when it comes to personality. One conscientious and careful, the other daring and spontaneous, but when they’re kidnapped from their home, each proves she will do anything for the other.

This book had everything I love about a fantasy tale. Creative, well-described world building, fast, fun-paced plot, and brave and devoted characters.

More about Federation of the Ferocious Five

Federation of the Ferocious Five, that included Casey L. Bond, produced Fractured Glass in 2014 and 7: The Seven Deadly Sins in 2016. 7 is a completely different book following Tom, a perhaps fated soul, throughout history as he strives to redeem himself. Tia Silverthorne Bach, N. L. Greene, Jo Michaels, and Kelly Risser continued the collaboration with War and Pieces: Frayed Fairy Tales Seasons 1-10 in 2017. Tia and Jo co-wrote The Cursed Witch Book Series in 2018. Tia, Jo, and Kelly published Recipe for Redemption, a sweet adult romance, in January of 2020 under the pen name of T. J. Kelly.
