Hottie of the Week – New Adult Character Doug

Hottie of the Week – New Adult Romance Character, Doug

from the inspiring college romance series, Being Me

For this HOTW (Hottie of the Week) I’m going retro to the first novel I published, the new adult romance, Is This Me?, the first book in the Being Me series. The Being Me series is hard to put in one bucket. On one hand it is a college romance including a love triangle between three main characters Amanda, Doug, and Zack. On the other, it is an inspiring, coming-of-age series about a girl who experiences a series of traumas and develops anorexia. Her disease overwhelms her and she is forced to face her demons to save her life.

But, enough with the heavy and on to the fun stuff. Amanda meets Doug her very first day on campus. Actually her dad introduces them, which is a little strange. Doug is the fraternity president where Amanda’s father is an alum. Amanda is attracted to Doug immediately. His charm and personality, along with their mutual interests in language, photography, and travel, endear him further to her.

Doug is not a character many readers end up loving in Is This Me?. Three years ahead of Amanda in school, he decides that they shouldn’t hang out after a week of joint friend hangouts. Already crushing on him, Amanda reels with anger and misunderstanding. It’s not like she hit on him or pushed him to be more than a friend. But Amanda plods on, determined to not let this derail her Freshman experience.

But with her best friends in his fraternity as well, Doug is hard to avoid. They end up on the same soccer field and volleyball team. I don’t want to give all the fun scenes away, but let’s say Amanda doesn’t have the best of luck in either of these games. But always swooping in to be the white night, Doug somehow is there. Which, of course, infuriates Amanda even more.

To top off this triangle, enter Zack, Doug’s best friend and fraternity brother. Zack is the polar opposite of Doug. Lighthearted and fun-loving, Zack pursues Amanda. And with Doug MIA, how could she resist?

Love music? I create playlists for all my books. Viva La Vida from Coldplay is Doug’s theme song. You can listen to the entire playlist on Spotify here.
